Even if you are not so mathematically-inclined, I'm sure it's hard to conceptualize the number 1,000,000,000 - one billion. One billion sheets of A4-sized paper (attached one after the other) could very well circle the whole earth at her equator well over five times. Even for an expert, counting to one billion would take about 30 years of your life, even if you never stop to sleep and however fast you can count! And if you had to find a single piece of information by sorting through a billion documents it would take you, on average, about 2000 years.

Google is determined to achieve this feat - searching over a billion documents within a few seconds... Today, businesses have tons of documents and other types of data — some even have a billion documents that need searching, and it's unlikely that employees have 2000 years to dedicate to the hunt. Searching has always been a pain point and now with Google Search Appliance 6.0, Google has managed to sift through the humongous data, including attachments, within a matter of a few seconds! Isn't that a herculian task and a herculian achievement?
